What is a Knox Box?
A Knox Box is a high security box system that is designed to give firefighters and emergency services immediate access to locked buildings, elevators and other secured areas.
Why install a Knox Box?

How does the Knox Box work?
Following your purchase of a Knox Box, you will mount it securely on the exterior of your building. All necessary access keys will be locked inside by a fire department representative. The fire department will have a master key to open the Knox Box placed in a safe on a responding vehicle. Only the fire department’s master key can open the box. The master key is only accessable upon request from the fire department to Putnam County dispatch who will remotely unlock the safe for key access. The key will then open the Knox Box installed on site. Putnam County will only open the safe after a request from emergency services and only during an emergency. All requests to open the box are logged by Putnam County with the name of the requestor, date and time.
Once the incident is over, the key is placed back into the safe upon the fire department vehicle after the location is securely locked. The The Knox Box gives the fire department a simple alternative to expensive, time consuming forcible entry.
How secure is a Knox Box system?

After installation is completed, the Fire Department will conduct an inspection of the installation and lock building keys inside the box. It will then be ready to provide immediate access to emergency personnel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
